Halter Materials and Landscape supply is a local material yard opening along 422 in Douglassville. We decided to open the facility more than 2 years ago and had a vision after more than 13 years in the industry to open a yard that specifically catered to Contractors and Landscapers, not just homeowners. Halter Materials offers superior service while providing you, the client, quality product at a competitive price. Our bagged products, tools, seed, fertilizer, baseball field material, and other hardscape materials are more affordable than most hardware stores in the area! Time is money in the contractor and landscaper world, and we want to provide a facility to cater specifically to that with our hours of operation, efficient processing, and professional equipment operators. Why Is my mulch moldy?

Why is my mulch moldy?

Mold will occur when mulch is unable to dry out and is in a damp area. The mold will cause no harm to your plants or other vegetation and should disappear within 3 weeks. The easiest way to remove it is simply with a shovel. To keep mold from appearing try watering less as mold thrives in warm shady wet environments.

What is the best way to fill a deep hole?

Fill dirt can be used when filling deep holes. Fill is a cheaper option and will not settle like topsoil or compost. It is best to use topsoil for the last 3 inches of the hole if you plan to plant on top of it.

How to plant grass seed?

Loosen up the first 2-3 inches of soil.

Break any larger clumps of soil. Clumps smaller than a half dollar are acceptable.

Spread seeds evenly (approximately 16 seeds per square inch).

Cover seeds evenly with soil no deeper than ¼ inch of soil, the back of a rake can be used for this.

Optional cover seeds lightly with straw or straw matting this will help keeps seeds moist and stop them from washing away.

Water often you want to keep the seeds moist but not saturated.

Allow grass to grow 3-4 inches before cutting and be sure to allow the soil to dry 48hrs before mowing.

What is the difference between 2A and 2B stone?

2A stone compacts well but does not allow for much drainage whereas 2B is semi permeable which will allow for water to drain. 2A is often used under driveways and sheds whereas 2B is used under concrete and anywhere where moisture could be a problem.

Rocks or Mulch for my garden?

Decorative rock is always a good option for your garden or pathways. Unlike mulch rocks do not lose their color over time and do not deteriorate like you typical mulch will. When mulch breaks down it does add some nutrients to your soil however using fertilizers with you rocks will produce the same luscious look

What is the difference between 2A and 3/4 Modified stone?

2A is a 1-2 inch stone, 3/4 is a 1/2-3/4 inch stone.
2A is meant to be 4 inches below or more the finished surface while 3/4 is meant to be 2-4 inches below the finished surface. 3/4 is easier to level and packs and tamps tighter.
